The story of California’s post-war architecture would not be the same without the Case Study House program. One of the key examples, Case Study House #26, built in 1962 in northern California, has been for most of its life outside the spotlight and scrutiny of the other Case Study Houses in southern California, enabling it to weather its first 60 years without much risk of demolition or misguided renovation.
In this presentation, the owners talk about Beverley Thorne’s design, about living and maintaining it for the current and future generations and their plans on how to commemorate its 60th anniversary later this year.

Since 2015, Alfonso Cordon and Cord Struckmann have called CSH26 their home. Having grown up in Guatemala and Germany respectively, and heavily influenced by Latin American modernist and Bauhaus architecture, they came to appreciate California modernism and were thrilled to have the chance to be caretakers of one of its key examples.
