Full Details

After several years performing for sold out MW audiences, acclaimed Canadian jazz cellist Kye Marshall returns to MW 2022 to perform an afternoon of jazz in the historic Old Las Palmas neighborhood.

An eclectic musician, Ms. Marshall has composed and performed in nearly every musical genre, including classical, opera, theatre, dance, radio drama, and jazz. The latest of her six CDs, Pencil Blues, was nominated for Best Jazz CD of the year by Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA). Her compositions have been premiered by organizations as prominent as “I Solisti Veniti” of Venice, Italy, one of the world’s leading string orchestras. Her chamber opera, "Pomegranate", was first produced in 2019 and is expected to be picked up by the Canadian National Opera.

This afternoon's concert will feature Ms. Marshall playing selections ranging from the Great American Songbook to several of her own delightful compositions. Ms. Marshall will be accompanied by Bob Hamilton on acoustic guitar.

This year’s performance will take place at a private estate with an exceptional art collection. This is a not-to-be-missed mid-century inspired property. The original owner of the estate also owned the famed Chi-Chi Club in Palm Springs. At a time when African-American performers such as Nat King Cole were unable to stay in local hotels, the owner hosted them here at his home.

The concert will be followed by a reception with hosted wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres, and will include a meet and greet with the artists. The reception will end about 6:00 to segue right into your dinner plans.

Catering by Lynn Hammond Catering.

This year’s concert will benefit the Coachella Valley Symphony.
