Join Heather David, author of Motel California, as she explores the popular themes of the American motel at midcentury. We’ll be taking a virtual road trip from coast to coast and celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of these mom and pop enterprises. From the storybook themes of Anaheim, California to the space-themed motels of Cocoa Beach, Florida, prepare to immerse yourself in the fun and fantasy of MOTEL AMERICANA.

Heather M. David is a California-based cultural historian and freelance writer.  She is the author of the books Mid-Century by the Bay, Motel California, and numerous articles on American popular culture and historic preservation. Heather is an advocate for the preservation of midcentury modern architecture, art, and signage, with a focus on Northern California Modernism.
